Winter Haiku Sequence

Hexads descending
freeze the flesh yet warm the soul:
ice with sparks of flame.

Frenzy of footprints,
signing the hollow's canvas:
"Critters Crossing Here."

Scratching up the pine,
lone red-headed woodpecker;
tremulous insects.

Ancient fallen tree:
too heavy for its branches,
the weight of winter.

Infant sun, stretching;
icy stalactites, dripping--
beauty, crystal-clear.

Moody Man Winter!
Gray and heavy, brooding sky,
weeping frozen tears.

Lacy swirls of snow
blow like peppermint whispers
gently nipping ears.
